Pseudonym, given in Hubin II as Charlotte Monica Braeme (Brame). Other sources[1, 2]
give her name as Charlotte Mary Brame. She was a prolific writer of very popular romantic/sentimental
stories that appeared in the cheap English story papers[2].
The name of Bertha Clay was one of the pseudonyms used by some publishers. But, the name became a stock
name with Street and Smith [1], so not everything appearing under that byline was written by Mrs. Brame.
