OBC Meetings 2019-2020


All OBC meetings, unless otherwise indicated, begin at 7:30 pm and will be held in Room 112, Fisher Park Community Centre. Lots of parking is available.

Meetings are generally held the first Monday of every month. At the 2018 general meeting, it was decided to not hold meetings in December and February. Check the date to be sure.

The Library of Jim Jope

A tour of the extraordinary library of our member Jim Jope and his wife Denise: 20,000 books--including botanical art books, classical texts, and a great variety of other subjects.
Members will meet at 7:30 p.m. at Jim’s home. Note: This is an OBC members only event.

Terry Rundle West, author

Terrence (Terry) Rundle West, author of four published historical novels, will discuss those facts which bring a book together, including plot, characters, historical background, and intended audience.

Finishing off the last of the Yuletide seasonal cheer, OBC members will present the books they received during the holidays (or books they gave themselves!) Tell us why it is an asset to your collection.

Thomas King's Worksr

Member Pat Gibson will present on American-Canadian writer Thomas King: his writings, his works dealing with indigenous scholarship, and his political activism.

Remembering Gouzenko

Andrew Kavchak will review his book “Remembering Gouzenko – The Struggle to Honour a Cold War Hero”. We will learn of the consequences of Mr. Gouzenko’s courageous defection - the disclosure of an espionage network throughout Canada, the U.S.A., and the U.K.

Bob Barclay of Ottawa’s Loose Cannon Press, will detail his company’s services to enable you to professionally author your family’s history: editing, formatting, page design, cover design, preparation of print-ready copy, and uploading to a printer.

Annual General Meeting

Our Annual General Meeting when suggestions for potential speakers will be provided, and a new executive elected. Additionally, members are asked to contribute to our June book exchange where we reduce our current collections by selling to others, and in turn increase our collections by purchasing new items!
